Tempered and Insulated Glass
Windows have the option to be both insulated and tempered. In this glass construction the pane which faces inside is tempered to add additional strength and safety. The space between the panes is insulated with Argon gas. The glass on the outside of your home can also come with a cleanless coating so the glass stays cleaner longer.
Also referred to as toughened glass, tempered glass has undergone a thermal and chemical processes to increase its strength and safety. This process prevents the glass from breaking easily. In essence, tempered glass is used mostly for security purposes.
Insulated coated glass offers two main benefits. The first benefit being when the panes in a double or triple paned window is filled with Argon gas. The argon offers better insulating properties than air, and helps keep the heat in during the winter and the cool air in during the summer. The second benefit being a specially formulated silver reflective layer, which reflects away from the home. This reflection helps your home maintain room temperatures year round, and also filters damaging ultraviolet rays from destroying your furniture or floors. In addition to insulation benefits many homeowners install double or triple panes to reduce noise. Insulated glass goes hand in hand with double or triple pane glass.
